Statement: ABATE of Indiana and Rider Education
ABATE of Indiana
ABATE of Indiana has been the state's premier provider of rider education since the 1970’s, has trained 125,000 students, and received hundreds of national awards. Our number one priority has always been to offer Indiana motorcyclists the best rider training available. This is not going to change.
What is going to change, is that for the first time since the inception of the state legislated program in 1987, ABATE of Indiana will not be under contract with the State of Indiana to deliver this invaluable, life-saving, community service.
For the last two seasons, we have been in an environment that is not conducive to learning and does not address the best interests of Hoosier motorcyclists. Due to this, and some untenable requirements contained in the state's latest request for proposal (RFP), ABATE of Indiana's Board of Directors voted unanimously to not submit a proposal to administer the program for the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Although we are disappointed that this situation exists, we are very excited by the opportunities this presents to further improve our program and satisfy the needs and desires of all Indiana riders.
