The biggest news in MAY, is Motorcycle Awareness and You. May is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month in the State of Indiana, and nationally.
You are invited to join us Thursday May 9th for a kickoff event on Monument Circle in Indianapolis.
We take this opportunity to encourage motorists to look for motorcyclists and share the road. In multiple vehicle crashes involving a motorcycle, there is an over representation of the other vehicle violating the motorcyclist’s right of way. The driver of the other vehicle often states that they did not see the motorcycle.
Since motorcycles are smaller than cars, they are harder to see in traffic and it is more difficult to judge the approach speed. As riders, we want to do all that we can to be seen, which includes making other roadway users more aware.
We focus on this activity in the spring as motorcyclists are coming out of hibernation and drivers have gotten used to not seeing us. However, motorcycle safety is a year round project.
Remember to do your part as a responsible motorcyclist and ride sober and aware, get licensed and trained, and make certain your machine is properly maintained. Meanwhile, we will all remind other roadway users to do as the bumper sticker says and, “save a life, be aware, MOTORCYCLES ARE EVERYWHERE”.
P.S. The Boogie is only a couple months away and this year is shaping up to be one of the best ever. A few new attractions and events, added to the nostalgic experience, promise to make Boogie 2019 a life changing experience that you won’t want to miss.
