The months of June, July and August are a special time for Hoosier bikers. It’s the most prime riding weather that we have, our biggest events are going on, and our safety courses are in full swing. We’re way past the General Assembly session, and we’re not fully in panic mode leading into the General Election. Is this what breathing room feels like? Maybe so.
Since we’re in a bit of an interregnum, I made good on my threats and compiled and sent candidate questionnaires. One thing about them is that they’re rather wordy. They’re meant to teach as much as they are obtaining opinions. Our questions boil down to – Do you support oversight of autonomous vehicles, do you support fuel labeling, and do you support education and the adult right of helmet choice? I also included room for comments. If you would like to have a look at the full questionnaire, get in touch with me or your local ABATE officer. Once we get closer to the election, we’ll publish the responses we receive. We absolutely will not be editorializing these, so read them carefully and go to the polls in November as an educated voter.
One thing I’ve noticed from the responses received thus far is that there is a massive need for the non-motorcycling public to be educated, not just our stance on the issues we care about, but what the issues are in general. There are lots of festivals and fairs going on this summer. It’s a great place to catch your local candidates. Go as an ABATE member and talk to them.
I have a mental schematic of what the election and 2025 General Assembly might look like, and how we may be called to respond. What do you want to see ABATE work on in our next legislative session? Go to a meeting and make your voice heard.
Staying Vigilant,
