Happy Friday Freedom Fighters,
First of all, THANK YOU to everyone that went to ABATE Day at the Statehouse. It was a big personal disappointment that I was unable to attend. That leads to my second thanks, to everyone that kept me updated as the day went on.
ABATE Day at the Statehouse WORKS! Rep. Ledbetter’s HB1022 was dead. It wasn’t getting a committee hearing. Then, ABATE showed up and lobbied, and it’s getting a hearing! That’s huge. That’s a coup. This is the payoff we get for having our shit together and lobbying the right way.
Next Week:
SB281 is scheduled to be heard by the Senate Homeland Security & Transportation Committee on Tuesday 01.30 at 10:00. We support this bill. The wording isn’t perfect, but it makes several fixes to flawed language implemented with the 2017 ORV child helmet bill.
SB65 is scheduled to be heard by the Senate Homeland Security & Transportation Committee on Tuesday 01.30 at 10:00. As this relates to all motor vehicles, we are making sure no anti-motorcycle wording gets added. We do not anticipate this to happen. ABATE’s position is neutral at this time.
HB1022 is scheduled to be heard by the House Roads & Transportation Committee on Tuesday 01.30. The scheduled time has not yet been posted as I’m compiling this update. This is very important legislation. Jay will be testifying to the committee in support of this legislation.
Our session has turned from one of monitoring to active participation very quickly. This is really quite common. The rest of our targeted legislation appears to be dead in committee, however as has been demonstrated this week, that can always change.
