Last month I wrote that I would give a list of General Session deadlines. It's March, but I've included the last two days of February because some members get their magazine a couple of days early.
Monday, February 27 Last day for 3rd reading of House bills in the House.
Noon Tuesday, February 28 Last day for Senate to receive House bills.
Tuesday, February 28 Last day for reading Senate bills in the Senate.
Wednesday, April 12 Last day for 3rd reading of House bills in the Senate.
Wednesday, April 12 Last day for Senate adoption of conference committee reports without Rules Committee approval.
Thursday, April 13 Last day for 3rd reading of Senate bills in the House.
Thursday, April 13 Last day for House adoption of conference committee reports without Rules Committee approval.
Saturday, April 29 Last day for adjournment of both houses.
As it seems neither house usually convenes on Friday or Saturday, I believe they will move up the day of adjournment to possibly April 27.
Now, I want to send a big THANK YOU to our members that showed up at the State House for ABATE Day at the State House. You all did a wonderful job. Many of the 150 legislators were contacted and a lot of information was passed on and made available.
As I write this HB1200, the off-road vehicle bill, was heard in and passed through the House Roads and Transportation committee without amendment. No amendment is a good thing. It also made it through second reading on the House floor with no amendments. Now it goes back to the House of Representative floor for third reading to be passed before going to the Senate.
Through out March we will be keeping a watch. You also can help monitor the bill by going to the General Assembly website, www.iga.in.gov and watch live action from the floor of both houses and exploring the bill actions as listed in the menus.
As you get this magazine the bill will have already moved to the Senate, if it passed through the House, and it's likely it did. Amendments can also be added in the Senate. If that happens it creates the need for another committee hearing, which is a conference committee, it includes members from both the House and Senate.
I encourage you, as I often do, to got to the General Assembly website and help us keep vigilance.
As the weather warms RIDE far, RIDE safe and RIDE FREE.
Later,
Mike Meyer
