2016 session calendar: January, 6 – March, 14 (tentative)
There are currently three enrolled bills in the legislature that are of concern to the motorcycling public of Indiana. The bill number, title, status at time of publication, as well as a brief description, are as follows:
HB1087 Bureau of Motor Vehicles Omnibus Bill – Contains language that will lower the fee for a motorcycle learner's permit from $9.50 to $9.00. Further regulates the fee schedule for the Motorcycle Operator's Skills Test (AltMOST). Adjusts the fee for a motorcycle endorsement on an operator's license from a recurring $12.00 to a one time fee of $19.00. Those with current motorcycle endorsements will be exempt from endorsement fees.
Status: Passed out of the House Of Representatives; referred to Senate
Status (3/2/2016): Passed third reading in Senate, headed to conference committee
HB1246 Various Natural Resources Matters – Contains language that will allow out-of-state, off-highway vehicle users to ride on specific Indiana Department of Natural Resources properties with purchase of a Trail Users Tag.
Status: Passed House Natural Resources Committee; awaiting 2nd reading by House
Status (3/2/2016): Passed third reading in Senate, headed to conference committee
Status (3/7/2016): The House voted to concur with the Senate amendments on HB1246. Therefore it will not go to conference committee.
SB157 Motorcycle Registration Fees – Contains language removing fees paid into the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Trust Fund from motorcycle registration fees.
Note: Represents a decrease in fees of $0.30
