UPDATE: This Bill was passed and signed in to law on April 29, 2015, taking effect immediately. Here is a link to the final legislation

How long does it take a bill to become an enrolled act and then become a law. As I'm writing this it seems like SB383, a Senate bill, will take a whole generation to move through the system. In late March and early April the bill has made it through the Senate and House with some amendments which means it has to pass through a Senate Conference Committee. It seems it will make it through the Conference Committee but the wait is terrifyingly long.
Some good things about SB383 are, number one, it strikes the language of motorcycle handle bar height from Indiana Code. In other words there will no longer be a height limit for Indiana's motorcycle handle bars. Number two, it defines, recognizes and gives autocycles title and licensing pathways.
I encourage you to visit www.iga.in.gov to read the bill's language. It does not hurt motorcycling in Indiana!
I write about this twice a year at election time. RIDE TO VOTE. We've all seen the patches and helmet stickers that proclaim “I ride, I vote”. Let's make sure it's true. Indiana had a miserable voter turnout in last November's election. Even though this election does not have any State wide contests it does affect municipal governments. The county I live in has only on issue that is county wide and that is a school funding referendum that affects schools and taxes. You can bet that I for sure will vote in this election.
Please remember that ABATE of Indiana is a MOTOCYCLE political organization and don't let other issues that have been covered in the media discourage you from voting.
Primary election day is May 5th, 2015. Do it.
So, with that in your head take the long way around and RIDE far, RIDE Safe and RIDE FREE to vote.
Later,
Mike Meyer
